Investing to Train Workers for Good-Paying Jobs

This Labour Day, we celebrate the millions of workers whose hard work, skill and dedication keep Ontario moving, power our economy and build stronger communities.

Ontario workers built this province. And as President Trump’s tariffs threaten jobs, workers and businesses, our Ontario PC team will always stand up for the people who work hard every day to build our province and provide for their families.

Protecting Workers in the Face of Tariffs

President Trump’s tariffs are creating economic uncertainty, particularly for workers and communities that depend on Ontario’s steel, automotive and manufacturing sectors.

We’re fighting back by investing directly in workers and making sure people affected by tariffs have the support they need to retrain, develop new skills and find their next opportunity.

Nearly $27 million through Skills Advance Ontario is helping tariff-impacted workers retrain for new opportunities and prepare for good-paying, in-demand careers.

We’ve also invested more than $8 million in 10 Protect Ontario Workers Employment Response (POWER) Centres, providing rapid employment and wraparound supports to more than 24,000 workers.

And we’re protecting workers who need time to search for a new job or participate in training with job-protected leave, so they don’t have to choose between preparing for their future and protecting their employment.

Training Workers for Good-Paying Careers

Our Ontario PC team is making record investments to expand training and apprenticeship opportunities and give more workers the skills they need to succeed.

That means helping young people get a head start on their careers, giving experienced workers opportunities to retrain and upskill, and building the skilled workforce Ontario businesses need to invest, grow and create more jobs.

These investments are also helping ensure we have the workers needed to deliver Ontario’s $236 billion plan to build the highways, hospitals, schools, homes and other critical infrastructure our growing province needs.

Standing Up for Ontario Workers

Ontario has the best workers anywhere in the world. We’re going to keep investing in them, protecting their jobs and creating more pathways to rewarding, good-paying careers.

As we face President Trump’s tariffs and global economic uncertainty, our Ontario PC team will keep fighting for workers, strengthening our economy and building a more competitive, resilient and self-reliant Ontario. This Labour Day, and every day, we’re proud to stand with Ontario workers.
